In 2010, Mike Caldwell had the idea of buying a few hundred small metal washers and placing tamper-proof holograms on each side to secure a bitcoin private key inside.

He created the Casascius coin which went on to inspire hundreds of physical bitcoin representations.

This is a series 2 1.0 BTC Casascius Coin

1,644 recorded editions of this series were minted making it the most rare series among any brass 1.0 BTC or 0.5 BTC coins. The actual edition quantity is slightly higher than what's recorded since a few coins were funded in 2012. This is one of the few 2012 funded series 2 coins.
